Said owner Rick Bateman, "I have been writing for years and wanted to make my work available without having to go the full, traditional publishing route. As an Internet professional I soon realized I could offer my books electronically. During the process I also found a service which provides print-on-demand services with no set-up or monthly fees and the only cost is a percentage of the sale.
"Realizing I could include others in this model I set up Islandebooks.com where local authors can offer their books too. So now if someone wants to sell hard copies of their work over the Internet they can do so for no cost up front. I work with them and make their book's web page for them and facilitate the print-on-demand service for them.
"I see this as a step along the way for new authors. First do the eBook. Get the manuscript finished. Then go after the traditional publishers."
